Nancy Berlinger is a senior research scholar at The Hastings Center, an independent bioethics research institute based in Garrison, NY (USA). Her training is in English literature and her interdisciplinary scholarship includes conceptual analysis, narrative analysis, and qualitative approaches. Her research collaborations with social and environmental gerontologists and other age-focused researchers seek to understand ethical and societal challenges arising from population aging, with special attention to housing choice for older adults, social inclusion for people with dementia, and polices affecting caregivers. She is also interested in intersections of AI and population aging. The big questions that drive her research are: Which shared ideas and values can inform social change toward feasible social justice goals? And what are the policy narratives and structures that can sustain positive social change amid the complex political realities of aging societies?
