Dr. Barbara King is a Professor and Ralph A. and Charlotte Rodefer Chair at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, School of Nursing. Dr. King's program of research centers on improving outcomes for hospitalized older adults by reducing the incidence of hospital-associated disability. She is the co-creator of Mobilizing Older adults Via a systems-based INtervention (MOVIN), an evidence based model of care to improve older adult functional and psychlogical outcomes during a hospital stay. Dr. King has conducted several large mixed methods studies to understand acute care nurses experieces and decision making for initiating patient ambulation, transitioning care of older adults from hospital to skilled nursing facilities, understanding older adult patient experiences with mobility during hospitalization and measuring ambulation recovery in older adults post discharge.
