Leslie Hinyard, PhD, MSW is the Chair of the Department of Health and Clinical Outcomes Research and the Executive Director of the Advanced HEAlth Data (AHEAD) Institute at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She completed her MSW degree at the Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis in 2004 and her PhD in Public Health Studies--Epidemiology from Saint Louis University in 2008; joining the faculty of the SLU Center for Outcomes Research (SLUCOR) in 2009. In 2014, she joined the Center for Interprofessional Education and Research as the assistant director; overseeing the undergraduate minor in Interprofessional Practice and working on scholarship to enhance the field of Interprofessional Collaborative Practice. Dr. Hinyard subsequently returned to SLUCOR as the Deputy Director until the incorporation into the School of Medicine as a new Department of Health and Clinical Outcomes Research in 2020, where she continues to serve as the Department Chair. In 2019, Dr. Hinyard led the development of the Advanced HEAlth Data (AHEAD) Institute in 2019 with the mission to foster interdisciplinary research through the use of multiple streams of health data and the support and training of investigators throughout the research-project lifecycle for the improvement of patient care, health outcomes, health disparities, and reduction in healthcare costs. Dr. Hinyard's personal research focuses on using real-world evidence to investigate disparities and work towards equity in oncology care. More recently, she has been investigating access to palliative care services among patients with metastatic disease. Recently, she has gone back to her social work roots, collaborating with social work colleagues to understand the impact of live discharge from hospice on patient and caregivers.
