Edmund H. Duthie, Jr., MD, Professor of Medicine, Division of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine, joined the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in 1980 after completing a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the Jewish Institute for Geriatric Care at the State University of New York. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at MCW. In 1985, after two years of serving as Acting Chief, Dr. Duthie was named Chief, Division of Geriatrics/Gerontology at MCW and Chief, Section of Geriatrics/Gerontology at the Milwaukee VA. He has also held leadership roles as Geriatrics Residency Director, Geriatrics Fellowship Director, and Medical Director for the Senior Health Program at Froedtert Hospital. In July 2020, he retired from the Milwaukee VA and stepped down as the MCW Division Chief. Dr. Duthie remains on the MCW faculty as Professor of Medicine (Geriatric and Palliative Medicine) and continues to participate in teaching and scholarship. He has received numerous awards, including: The F&MCW Lee Biblo Award for Professionalism 2021, MCW Department of Medicine James Cerletty Award for Excellence 2020, Department of Medicine Best Teacher Award 2013-2014, Thomas Smallwood Award for Patient Care Excellence 2009-2010, and MCW’s Distinguished Service Award in 2002. He is a member of the MCW Society of Teaching Scholars. His scholarlily work is eclectic and he has had funding from the HRSA GEC/GWEP projects as well as the Reynolds Foundation. Most recently (2024-29) he is funded for his role in the Wisconsin GWEP.
