Xiang Qi, PhD, RN, is an Assistant Professor at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. His interdisciplinary research focuses on social disparities in healthy aging and longevity, encompassing social isolation, loneliness, immigration, and socioeconomic status. Qi aims to reduce health disparities in Alzheimer's disease and related dementia in the US and globally. An expert in data science and quantitative methodology, Qi employs machine learning, multilevel modeling, and causal inference in his work. He has extensive experience analyzing large datasets and electronic health records to understand social determinants of health and health disparities.
Qi leads NIH-funded projects investigating cognitive health heterogeneity and disparities in cardiometabolic diseases and mental health across Asian American ethnic groups. Previously, he was a Research Scientist on the NYUCI-ES project at the Rutgers-NYU Center for Asian Health Promotion and Equity and a Statistical Analyst on NIH-funded projects exploring connections between oral health and dementia. His numerous honors include the Douglas Holmes Emerging Scholar Paper Award, ESPO Best Poster Award, and Minority Issues in Gerontology Student Poster Award from the Gerontological Society of America. Qi has also received the Rising Star Award, Distinguished Alumni Award, and Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award from NYU Meyers, as well as the FIRE Doctoral Student Research Leadership Award from the New York Academy of Medicine. Qi's research, particularly on social isolation, loneliness, and cognitive health, has been featured in various media outlets, including U.S. News & World Reports, CNN, and Science News.
He earned his PhD from New York University and his Bachelor of Science from Fudan University in Shanghai, China, which included an exchange program at the University of California, Davis.
