Sara Espinoza, MD, MSc, is an Internist and Geriatrician, and Director of the Center for Translational Geroscience at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Espinoza is an expert in frailty and geroscience, and her research focuses on geroscience-guided therapies to improve frailty and healthspan in older adults. Dr. Espinoza’s research focuses on understanding frailty and sarcopenia in older adults, through epidemiologic and clinical translational research, including clinical trials. She is currently leading a randomized clinical trial of metformin for the prevention of frailty in older adults with pre-diabetes. A related study will examine the effect of metformin on key pillars of aging, including cellular senescence, mitochondrial function, and epigenetic modifications. She precepts medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and research settings. She also has expertise in developing and evaluating novel models of care for older adults.
