Dr. Carol Callaway-Lane is a board certified acute care nurse practitioner who received her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in 2011 while she was a fellow within the VA Quality Scholars Program. Dr. Callaway-Lane was the first doctoral prepared nurse to graduate from the Nashville site of this 2-year quality improvement fellowship. Following her graduation she taught Quality Improvement and Patient Safety in the DNP program from Fall 2011 through 2018 as assistant professor.
Within her role at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS), she is:
• Director of the National Geriatric Scholars Program Quality Improvement Workshop and Practicum; teaching the concepts of QI to clinical providers across the country and coaching them through improvement projects within their own clinic setting
• Associate program director of the Nashville VA Quality Scholars Program linking the current fellows to the local VA facility with regards to improvement projects and patient safety reviews
• Co-director of the Lung Cancer Screening Program
• Board President, Middle Tennessee Research Institute (MTRI) which is the non-profit organization charged with managing external funds supporting VA research
Clinically, Dr. Callaway-Lane sees patients in general pulmonary clinic and in Lung Nodule Clinic for Veterans presenting with signs of lung cancer. Carol has been at the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System since 1996 and is passionate about providing the best care possible for our nation’s Veteran population.
