Professor Daniel W.L. Lai is a distinguished scholar and academic leader with over 30 years of experience in university-level teaching and close to 15 years of strong academic leadership experience. His research expertise lies in gerontology, specializing in the health and mental health of older people, family caregiving, and ethnicity and aging. He has previously held visiting scholar titles at Nanjing Normal University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology and is currently an Adjunct Professor at Simon Fraser University in Canada. Prof. Lai has an impressive track record of peer-reviewed publications, with 161 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 15 co-edited books. He has also secured substantial research funding, amounting to HK$59,415,344 for 68 research projects from major international granting agencies such as the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Alberta Heritage Medical Research Foundation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Research Grant Council of Hong Kong, and Public Policy Fund in Hong Kong. In addition to serving on research grant panels in Canada, such as the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Alberta Heritage Medical Research Foundation, and Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Prof. Lai currently sits on research grant review committees of the Research Grants Council and Health and Medical Research Fund in Hong Kong. Prof. Lai also involves actively in community professional services. In addition to being the Vice President of the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology, he is a government-appointed member of the Elderly Commission of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, offering policy development advice to the government on issues related to population aging of Hong Kong.
