Professor
University of Florida College of Medicine
Gainesville, Florida, United States
I am Professor in the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics and at the Institute on Aging. I currently co-lead the Data Science and Applied Technology Core with partners in computer science. This core is a key asset at the UF Claude D. Pepper Older American’s Independence Center.
I strive to be a well-balanced researcher-educator and scientific leader while also being a reliable and insightful collaborator. My research and teaching are broadly focused on geriatric syndromes, clinical trials, epidemiology and wearable technology that are focused on preserving independence in late life. I’ve built and maintained these research programs with NIH funding for the past 15 years.
My research is closely integrated into clinical care for which I collaborate with physicians who treat older adults across a variety of disciplines. To this end, I’m a fellow in two societies: The American College of Sports Medicine and The Gerontological Society of America as well as the Chair ex-officio of the American College of Sports Medicine Strategic Health Initiative. Lastly, I value strong education and mentorship – receiving the Exemplary Teachers Award and CTSI’s Master Mentor designation. I also serve as the director of our National Institute on Aging T32 training program called TRAM— Translational Research on Aging and Mobility
