Ms. Vafiadis oversees strategic program operations for NCOA’s health portfolio. She directs a team of 20 staff and is responsible for numerous grants that bring in millions of dollars to support the organization’s mission. She builds business alliances and leads collaborative initiatives addressing chronic disease management. Several initiatives include education and awareness of obesity and the developing the obesity bill of Rights, bone health, older adult nutrition, well-being, and pain management. Ms.Vafiadis develops national demonstration projects in collaboration with senior centers across the country.
She has worked for more than 25 years in public health, government, and non-profit organizations focusing on developing strategies for nutrition innovation and chronic disease prevention. Before working at NCOA, she was at the American Heart Association (AHA) where she directed a Healthy Living strategy, including program and asset development. She led an industry-nutrition advisory panel and established relationships with dozens of multinational food companies to transform the food environment. Before AHA, Ms. Vafiadis was a senior nutritionist at the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion. She is a member of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s Food Forum, an advisory panel member for Cecelia Health, and a member of the Obesity Care Advocacy Network.
