Dr. Cao is an assistant professor at Florida State University College of Social Work. She is also a faculty associate of the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy. Dr. Cao earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her Ph.D. in social work from The Ohio State University with a focus on Gerontology. She joined Florida State University Claude Pepper Center and Pepper Institute on Aging and Public Policy in 2022 as a postdoctoral scholar. She started as an assistant professor at the College of Social Work in 2023.
Utilizing qualitative, quantitative, and network analysis skills, Dr. Cao's scholarship centers on improving the physical, mental, cognitive, and social health of underserved older adults. She is interested in both community-engaged research and secondary data analysis using nationally representative data sets to identify the social mechanism that shapes older adults' health and well-being. To date, her research has shed light on how an Age-Friendly Community environment, civic engagement, and occupational engagement throughout the life course influence one’s health later in life.
