Dr. Marguerite Daus’ research is focused on the optimization of the hospital-to-home transition for high-risk patients that have social needs with the goal of improving Veteran outcomes. She has experience conducting health systems research with a focus on the nursing workforce, health equity, and care transitions. In her fellowship, she is exploring how to apply mixed methods and implementation science principles in her work.
Veterans’ social needs (e.g., access to healthy food, housing, transportation) are particularly understudied, affecting their ability to access care and safely transition from hospital to home. As a national, integrated health care system, the VA is uniquely positioned to serve as a leader in social determinants of health research and continue to deliver high-quality Veteran care by creating a system to address social needs.
My research goal is to facilitate safe and efficient transitions from hospital-to-home for Veterans by ensuring that both their physical and social needs are met. I aim to support the VA in developing comprehensive social needs screening, community referral, and follow-up to implement across the healthcare system.
