My broad research interests are in factors and interventions that promote resilient aging, particularly in the context of living with chronic conditions. Most of my work lies at the intersection of HIV and aging. I favor qualitative and mixed methods in my work and lean heavily on community-based approaches. I completed my post-doctoral fellowship in geriatrics and gerontology at UC, Irvine and spent several years on the faculty of the School of Medicine at USC before joining UCSD. I was a NIH/NIA Butler-Williams Scholar and part of the first cohort of the UCSD Sustained Training in Aging and HIV Research (STAHR). I am currently the Executive Editor of Health Behavior and Policy Review and an associate editor of the Journals of Gerontology: Psychological Sciences. I am also a Past-President of the American Academy of Health Behavior and immediate past-Chair of the Aging and Public Health Section of the American Public Health Association.
