Clinical Social Worker
Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health
Los Angeles, California, United States
My name is Sandy Alcantar. I am an LCSW for the Los Angeles County of Mental Health and have been practicing since 2010, focusing on Prevention and Early Intervention. My expertise is treating Hispanic older adults who have had posttraumatic stress disorder. I have realized when we reach this generational stage, we have multiple vulnerabilities, including medical conditions, lack of family support, and increased isolation. As I have advanced in my career, I became certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), & Dialectical and Interpersonal therapy (IPT); I use these treatment modalities along with art therapy to help people feel less anxious and stressed about their past lived experiences and find meaning in their lives. I aim to discover new treatment modalities that are culturally sensitive to our population and enhance my understanding of the community. At the same time, I can exchange my expertise in community mental health with those interested.
