Dr. Mulhorn is a scholar in the area of healthy aging, functioning and aging and health, and health services. I am a both a teacher and researcher. My most recent research project is a collaboration between myself and a design faculty experienced in the area of design and design thinking. I am survey methodologist with significant experience with statistical analysis and multiple modes of research including both quantitative and qualitative methods. I use biostatistics, epidemiology, survey methods, focus group methods in my research. Since my dissertation, most of the focus of my work has been individuals over 65. My research interests include functioning and aging, applications of the ICF interventions for healthy aging; interventions which delay cognitive decline, and improving health services for seniors. In this project, I will act as co-I with expertise in research design, aging and health and functioning among the elderly. My expertise in these methods is ideal for a collaboration in which qualitative methods is used. On previous projects, I have been the statistician or the project leader for the DISTAB (Disability Tabulations), an international team of statisticians addressing the measurement of functioning in national data sets), as well as a facilitator of focus groups and a survey research methodologist with experience using in-depth interviews. I also have a long-term relationship as a visiting scientist at the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Gerontology, where I collaborate on projects to improve social participation among older persons living in the community.
