Runcie C.W. Chidebe is a Ph.D. student of Social Gerontology and a research assistant at the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University, Ohio, USA, working with Dr. Phyllis Cummins FGSA on a grant project focused on using both qualitative and quantitative research approaches to explore literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills in U.S. community colleges. His research interest includes aging and access to cancer care, workforce issues of older adults, and veterans’ health. He has published several works in peer-reviewed journals including the Lancet Oncology.
Chidebe seats on several boards including the external academic board of the Birmingham and Lewisham African and Caribbean Health Inequalities Review, United Kingdom; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Graduate Student Advisory Board, Miami University; and World Ovarian Cancer Coalition Board. He is also the president of Project PINK BLUE – Health & Psychological Trust Centre, Nigeria; Founder of Abuja Breast Cancer Support Group, Network of People Impacted by Cancer in Nigeria, and Psychological Support Centre (PSC) for cancer patients in Abuja.
As a result of his patient advocacy works in Africa, Chidebe has been recognized globally, including winning Nelson Mandela -Graca Machel innovation award, UICC Young Cancer Leader Award, International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), Catherine Peugeot Research Award, France; Global Ties U.S. Award for Social Innovation and Change by the U.S. Government, 4o Under 40 in Cancer globally, Distinguished Advocacy Award by International Gynecologic Cancer Society, USA; Faces of Exchange award alongside the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinta Ardern and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guteras by the U.S. Department of State and many other laurels across Europe, America and across Africa.
Chidebe holds a diploma in Social Work and BSc in Psychology/Sociology & Anthropology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and an MSc in Transforming and Leading in Health Care from Birmingham City University, United Kingdom.
