Dr. Britt is an assistant professor in Gerontological Nursing at the University of Iowa, having completed a T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in the NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health. A 2024 Butler Williams Scholar and a 2021-2023 Psychology/Mental Health Jonas Scholar, Dr. Britt has been a nurse for over 20 years, practicing across the life course from pediatrics to gerontology. She has conducted studies using large population datasets and qualitative methods. Her research focuses on identifying lifestyle factors such as spirituality and religious involvement to inform nonpharmacological interventions for persons living with dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and their caregivers to slow disease progression and improve well-being in historically underrepresented populations. She also studies cognitive care planning identifying ways to improve cognitive care for families facing Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Dr. Britt is the vice chair elect for Emerging Scholar and Professional Organization and the co-convener of the Religion, Spirituality, and Aging Interest Group for the Gerontological Society of America.
Dr. Britt has presented on topics such as cognitive aging, spirituality and religious activities at the Gerontological Society of America annual scientific meetings, Alzheimer’s Association international conferences, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association annual assembly meeting, and other national and international venues. Her work has been funded by the Population Aging Research Center at The University of Pennsylvania, Jonas Philanthropies, and Duke National Survey of Religious Leaders.
