Joy Toliver, M.P.H, is Program Coordinator for the National Institute on Aging's (NIA) Small Business Research Programs. In this role, Joy develops, implements, and evaluates programs and initiatives to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Small Businss Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Joy collaborates across the National Institutes of Health to develop funding opportunities and programs that promote health equity and that diversify the research and entrepreneurial workforce. She is also Program Director for the NIA Start-Up Challenge and Accelerator, a novel entrepreneurial training program and cash prize competition aimed to stimulate aging-related innvation and to foster diversity and inclusion in aging research and entrepreneurship. Prior to joining NIA, Joy served in leadership roles in senior living operations and geriatric care management. She completed her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she was recognized for her research on housing as a social determinant of health in innercity aging populations. Her research interests include health disparities, dementia care, and direct care workerforce training and retention strategies.
