Seattle, Washington, United States
Emy Haruo, MSW (She/Her)- Emy was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. She is a first-generation Filipina American and alum of Central Washington University and University of Washington. At a young age, Emy knew serving others was her passion. She was adopted and raised by a Navy Veteran who overcame his own struggles with addiction and became a Chemical Dependency Counselor. This is how Emy learned that people at all stages of life can benefit from a listening ear and a helping hand, as well as the importance of the walk matching the talk when being alongside someone in need.
Throughout college and after graduation, Emy worked as a state social worker in East and South King County serving infants through older adults. The majority of her social work experience revolved around the Solution-Base Case Work model. Currently, Emy is the Community Health Co-Director at Neighborhood House (NH). Founded in 1906, NH is one of the oldest human services agencies in the Seattle region. NH provides services to address the needs of entire families, with a focus on low-income community members, public housing residents, immigrants and refugees. In her role, Emy oversees the resources and wellness portfolios that connect evidence-based programs and case management/resource navigation services to improving health outcomes for BIPOC and immigrant community members. She supports program co-design and planning to ensure alignment with the needs identified by participants.
Emy takes much pride in being a Social Worker at heart and an agent of change. Beyond her professional experiences, being a mother, wife and daughter keeps her grounded and reminds her to always hold space for her own wellbeing. A personal ethic Emy has is to practice placing good intentions into the world. One smile can make a difference to someone's day that allows for a greater change.
