Emily Killian is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health at the University of Iowa College of Public Health. Her research centers on healthy aging, with a particular focus on the interplay between loneliness and social support among older adults residing in nursing homes. Emily is actively collaborating with her mentor, Dr. Sato Ashida, on Disaster Prepwise and the current Disaster Prepwise Caregiving project. The current intervention research project aims to support unpaid caregivers of individuals with dementia by developing disaster plans to ensure that caregiving activities can continue during and after emergencies through social networks and social support. Emily's work reflects her commitment to enhancing the quality of life and resilience of both older adults and their caregivers.
