Dr. Heffner is a Professor in the School of Nursing and in the Departments of Psychiatry and Medicine in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She is the Associate Chief of Research in the Division of Geriatrics & Aging in the Department of Medicine, and in the School of Nursing she directs the Stress & Aging Research Laboratory and the Elaine Hubbard Center for Nursing Research on Aging. She also serves on the executive leadership committee of the University of Rochester Aging Institute. Dr. Heffner and her research team are focused on discovering effective ways to reduce the impact of life stressors on older adults’ health, including in stressed family caregivers of persons living with dementia and older adults at risk for dementia. Her work has been continuously supported by multiple NIH grants and other federally funded awards for over 20 years.
