As a biostatistician housed within a Psychiatry department, Dr. Wallace has three investigative roles that complement one another through intersecting methodologies and by bridging ideas across statistical and psychiatric fields. In her role as a Primary Investigator, she has been supported by the NIMH, NIA, and University of Pittsburgh (K01MH096944, R01AG056331, RF1AG056331, CTSI Pilot Award) to develop harmonized multi-cohort databases of sleep across the lifespan. With these harmonized databases, she applies modern statistical approaches including clustering, random forest, and generalized additive models to study sleep and its effects on health outcomes including mortality, cognition, and depression. Second, as the lead of the Data Management and Statistics Core for a large NIDA Center for Excellence on substance use (P50 DA046346), Dr. Wallace develops pipelines for efficient data processing (e.g., actigraphy processing algorithms) and rigorous quality control. She also ensures high-quality statistical analysis for all projects within the Center. Third, as a statistical Co-Investigator, she brings her expertise and methods to her colleagues’ research to provide cutting-edge statistical support.
