Emily S. Ihara, PhD, MSW, FGSA, is Professor and Chair in the Department of Social Work at George Mason University. Her research focuses on interventions, policies, and system changes necessary to eliminate health inequities and improve quality of life for older adults and minoritized populations. Current research projects examine the effectiveness of community-based and creative arts interventions on mood, agitation, and behavioral difficulties among individuals living with dementia, the social environmental factors that prevent underserved populations from achieving optimal health outcomes, and the complexity of dementia caregiving.
