Marianne Shaughnessy, PhD, AGPCNP-BC, GS-C, FAAN is the Director, Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) Programs in the Veterans Health Administration. She oversees the activity of the 20 Geriatric Centers of Excellence nationwide. Marianne has over 30 years of experience as a nurse and is certified as an Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Gerontological Nurse Specialist. She has worked in the VA since 1999.
Prior to her current position, Dr. Shaughnessy was the Associate Director for Education and Evaluation for the Baltimore GRECC and held academic appointments at the Schools of Nursing at University of Maryland, Baltimore, University of Pennsylvania and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Marianne received external research funding from the VA and non-profit organizations to investigate research interventions for older adults with neurological impairment. She has more than 40 published peer-reviewed journal articles and other publications. Marianne has served on the Board of Directors and President of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association and the American Delirium Society and is the current Chair of the Geronotlogical Nursing Credentialing Commission.
Marianne earned her PhD, MSN and BSN degrees from the School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania.
