FootCare by Nurses
Amherst, Massachusetts, United States
Dr. Mary (Kate) Clayton-Jones is the owner of FootCare by Nurses, LLC, which is an evidence-based Massachusetts nursing agency that specializes in home visits to take care of the feet of elders to prevent wounds and falls. Kate's PhD work at UMass Amherst, in nursing, led her to discover a novel and effective way to re-lace the shoes of patients to prevent toe tip wounds and improve balance and comfort for patients. This work led her to her DNP capstone work that incorporated shoe fit and foot care with deliberate purposeful touch and connection to release patient pain to mitigate falls. Kate is an active member of the AFCNA, WOCN, GSA and AHNA she also writes for the WOCNCB. Kate has presented her research and findings nationally and internationally. She believes that preventing health related problems from happening falls squarely into the bucket of nursing, but to do that nurses need to be less task driven and more purposeful in their thinking.
