Ladda Thiamwong is a Full Professor, Florida Blue Endowed Professor for Healthy Communities and Lead of Enhancing Mind-Body Resilience for Aging with Cultural Equity (EMBRACE) lab in the College of Nursing, University of Central Florida (UCF). An aging expert with 20+ years of experience in gerontological nursing education, Thiamwong has spent most of her career and research on healthy aging, fall prevention in older adults and aging education. Her research has been published and presented both nationally and internationally. She developed the Fall Risk Assessment Test for screening Thai community-dwelling older adults, and the Healthy Aging Instrument to assess processes involved in healthy aging, which is now available in several languages. Her research findings have led to a paradigm shift in fall risk assessment through tailored fall interventions. Thiamwong has been awarded over $7 million in funding, including three NIH grants, and currently leads an interdisciplinary team implementing a technology-based body and mind intervention for older adults in low-income settings (R01MD018025). Her previous NIH-funded study on technology-based fall risk assessments received a Catalyst Award from the U.S. National Academy of Medicine Healthy Longevity Global Challenge. She is a co-convener of the Gerontological Society of America-Aging Among Asians (GSA-AAA) interest group, GSA outreach vounteer and a chair of the Aging/Gerontology Research Interest and Implementation Group (RIIG), Southern Nursing Research Society (SNRS). She is an associate editor of the Frontiers in Public Health, Specialty Section of Injury Prevention and Control. At the local level, she shares her expertise as a member of the City of Orlando Mayor’s Committee on Livability and Healthy Aging and the Disability, Aging, and Technology Faculty Research Cluster at the University of Central Florida.
