Associate Director of Research
Veterans Health Administration/Duke University
Durham, North Carolina, United States
Dr. Hall is Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University; Associate Director of Research for the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) of the Durham VA Health Care System; and Director of the National VHA Gerofit program. She joined the Durham VA GRECC in 2009 as an Advanced Fellow in Geriatrics. Over the past 15 years she has built a clinical research agenda around physical activity and function in older veterans with an emphasis on developing evidence-based exercise interventions to address the physical, psychosocial, and functional needs of this population. Her research focuses on three overarching, complimentary areas: 1) developing clinical exercise trials to improve functional trajectories and patient-centered outcomes in the context of aging and chronic disease; 2) psychosocial factors that influence initiation and maintenance of physical activity behavior in older adults; and 3) objective assessments of mobility, function, and physical activity behavior in older adults. Much of her work in the past 8 years has focused on exploring these questions in older veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Hall has received grants from the Dept. of Veterans Affairs and the NIH to study the impacts of exercise on physical and psychological well-being and explore strategies to effectively implement these interventions across the continuum of care.
