Jay Magaziner, PhD, MSHyg is professor and chair, Department of Epidemiology and Public Health in the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Director of the University’s Center for Research on Aging. His research has been directed at identifying the consequences of hip fracture and on developing and evaluating the effects of interventions to improve outcomes He collaborates with other internationally recognized researchers and clinical experts on methods to collectively advance hip fracture care for older persons. He is Principal Investigator of the UM-Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, one of fifteen federally funded centers in the US for study of function in older persons and has been funded continuously by the National Institute on Aging (NIIA) since 1983. His work on hip fracture recovery has earned me two consecutive MERIT Awards from the NIA.
