Carlos Mendes de Leon, PhD is a Research Professor in the Department of Global Health at Georgetown University School of Health. Mendes de Leon completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in clinical psychology at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He completed his graduate training in Preventive Medicine and Community Health at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. He has held faculty positions at Yale University, Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI, before joining Georgetown University in 2022. Mendes de Leon is a social epidemiologist with a primary interest in health changes and health disparities in late life. His research focuses on risk factors for aging-related health outcomes including cognitive impairment and dementia, disability, and quality of life. He is currently leading a population-based survey study on aging and dementia in Lebanon and Nepal, following the methods of the Health and Retirement (HRS) and Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol (HCAP) network family of international studies.
