Are you interested in studying aging populations throughout the world? Have you been looking for user-friendly, large-scale, public-use datasets for teaching or research? Come check out the Gateway to Global Aging Data (g2aging.org)! The Gateway to Global Aging Data is a platform for population survey data on aging, with the goal of facilitating longitudinal or cross-national comparative research using the family of Health and Retirement Studies around the world. These longitudinal surveys interview individuals approximately 50 and older across 5 continents and cover a wide range of topics ranging from health, cognition, and healthcare utilization, to employment, wealth, and income, and even cover their anthropometric measurements, life history, and end of life. The Gateway provides all the tools you need to get started, including a searchable library of survey questionnaires, concordance tables and working papers detailing cross-wave and cross-survey differences, and publications based on the HRS family of surveys. The Gateway also creates Harmonized datasets representative of 35 countries across the world, which contain comparably defined variables, enabling cross-national and longitudinal analyses. You can even produce weighted population-level estimates in informative graphs and tables on our website of key harmonized measures across time and countries. The Gateway is also home to extensive policy information. The Gateway Policy Explorer captures historical retirement, long-term care, and educational policy changes over the time of the surveys. This tool supports researchers who want to understand or use policy change in their research and provide context for longitudinal or cross-country differences. The Gateway also conducts regular webinars, introducing users to its tools and data and illustrating cross-country and longitudinal analyses, and has a blog series, providing information about the Gateway and the HRS family of surveys. If you have a question that isn’t already answered in our FAQ, then email our helpdesk (help@g2aging.org), and one of our team members will get back to you as soon as possible. The Gateway has also launched a new project: the Gateway Exposome Coordinating Center (GECC). The GECC advances research on the various environmental exposures over the life course — known as the “exposome” — that affect Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and AD-Related Dementias (ADRD) risk, resilience, and disparities. The GECC aims to facilitate collaboration and consensus-building across disciplines and to serve as a hub for collecting, organizing, and sharing exposome data for AD/ADRD research. The center concentrates on six main domains: climate, physical environment, social environment, policy environment, community services environment, and life experiences. By creating a collaborative platform across these focuses, we help improve knowledge and understanding of AD/ADRD, which can drive policy changes and provide better data for future research. Supported by the NIA, this wealth of information is available to all users for FREE! Come check out the Gateway to Global Aging Data at g2aging.org or the GECC at gatewayexposome.org today!
